The Reality Check

Stop eyeballing ingredients. "One cup of flour" can vary by 30% depending on humidity and how you scooped it. We use grams and ratios. These recipes are designed for high-volume training: non-crumbly, high-value, and rubbery so dogs can swallow them instantly and keep the training flow fast.

Step 1: The "Golden Ratio" of Dog Treats

For a perfect, cut-able, rubbery training treat, the base ratio is always: 2 parts Protein (Wet) : 1 part Binder (Dry) : X Eggs. Eggs act as both binder and moisture control. We weigh them too.

Stop using measuring cups. Always measure your base ingredients in grams. 100g is always 100g. It removes all the guesswork and guarantees consistency.

Step 2: The Recipes (Liver, Tuna, Sardine)

Liver Brownie (best for recall, distractions, reactive dogs): 500g raw beef liver (rinsed), 250g flour (whole wheat, oat, or rice), 2 large eggs (~100g). Puree liver and eggs; fold in flour; spread ~1cm thick on a parchment-lined pan; bake 350°F (175°C) 15 min. Cool and cut into 1cm squares. Fridge 3 days, freezer 3 months.

Tuna Fudge (best for loose leash, puppy classes): 2 cans tuna in water (~340g), 170g flour, 2 eggs. Mash tuna with water; add eggs and flour; press into pan; bake 350°F (175°C) 20 min. Optional: leave in off oven 10 min for tougher treat.

Sardine Slider (best for puppies, dull coats, picky eaters): 400g canned sardines in water, 200g oat flour, 2 eggs. Blend sardines and eggs; fold in flour; bake 350°F (175°C) 18–20 min. Cut into chunks or tiny cubes.

Step 3: Troubleshooting & Size

Too crumbly? Add 1 extra egg or 50g unsweetened applesauce. Too sticky? Bake 5–10 min longer or add 30g more flour. Moldy in 2 days? Spread thinner; store in freezer. Dog won't eat? Add 1 tbsp garlic powder (safe in small amounts) or parmesan for scent.

Size matters. A treat for a Great Dane should be the size of a pea. For a Chihuahua, the size of a grain of rice. If your dog is chewing for more than 2 seconds, your treat is too big. Cut them smaller.

The Sardine Incident
